So Dave and I thought what better way to get to Veleta (3398m)than using our bikes. However, the wind showed us who was boss at 25-30mph. It was head on much of the 8.5 miles. I have never climbed that high on my bike consecutively and it was brutal. We made it almost the whole way on bikes until my legs screamed no more. We hiked the last .5 mile and it was pretty cool as well as the wildlife we saw (even owned) not to mention the quick ride with a small detour through the bike park. I am so proud of Dave for checking on me on more than one occasion. Mulhacen, you may be next but I may just hike. David got some great shots too.
Look to the left towards Hoya de la Mora.
Looking straight out towards Mulhacen (3479m), the highest peak in the Iberian peninsula and next door, Alcazaba.
Looking straight down from the 3rd highest peak in the Iberian Peninsula.
Here are some mountain goats just below the top.
We took a break at this spot because I realized my legs were shot/toasted/done. Thank goodness I have some Tiger Balm Rojo. The highest point is where we headed.
Taking in the view while I stretched my legs, hid from the wind and downed some sustenance.
Here is the local ski area. We actually went through it on the way down and saw horses and some cows.
As we were heading back to the bikes we ended up following a herd of goats.
