So, in Spain there is always a puente at the beginning of the month and this is the 1st time we’ve planned ahead for it, largely due to me being trapped in the house for a month and thinking this would be easier on my body. I decided to check out Los Pueblos Blancos de la Frontera. Yesterday, we went to Olvera and Zahara de la Sierra. We understand why they stand out amongst others.
So, this is Calle Llana leading straight to Plaza de la Iglesia. There were several stalls all over town selling various items and we had lucked out parking just around the corner somewhat from here.
At Plaza de la Iglesia reminding us where we are and Toren too busy figuring out how to make it memorable. There’s the Arab fortress just beyond which offers 360 or maybe 180 degree views of the area, but we could also see that there would have been a lot of stairs for me.
From the Monumento al Sagrado Corazón looking at the 2 main historical monuments of the town; Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación and the Arab fortress.
Zoomed out and there were some stairs but fewer for me to deal with.
Only 30 minutes away is Zahara de la Sierra and you turn a corner with only the Embalse de Zahara-El Gastor between you and the pueblo.
This was taken from the Mirador de Zahara de la Sierra just outside the village.
We were told that this parking spot would get us closest to the castle remains, but not quite the closest. Most of it was fairly flat and it had a beautiful view.
Here is the Torre del Homenaje. It was described as a mild, steep climb of 10-15 minutes and it’s mostly a flat path all the way up with a couple steps here and there. My stomach muscles might have been pushed but otherwise this would have been a piece of cake. I brought Ibuprof. I feel better today.
The view of the embalse from the top and a great way to burn off a small lunch and postre.
The view of the pueblo below…do you see why I couldn’t pass it up? It’s been 5 weeks and I figured I’ll do it in the most non threatening way possible. Crazy part was I still beat Asher.
