I was reflecting on an opportunity I had to finally hike the Caminito del Rey right before my surgery and alas, I’m itching to get back out there. It is no longer as dangerous as it once was, but it was an awesome experience. Sorry for the number of photos, but it was a really gorgeous hike. If you’re ever in the Malaga region of Spain, a definite must do and don’t forget to book in advance.
So, this is roughly where we parked and then we had to walk to the trail head.
We took the nature walk to meet our tour group and we walked with a pretty good clip as we realized we only had 20 minutes to get there. More than enough time, no?
A view of the river on the way. A couple quick pics shouldn’t waste too much time.
Is this a sign?
OK, we made it! Now, for our hike through the canyon to begin.
We are now quite high above the canyon.
Looking back toward where we came from.
Don’t worry! It’s totally safe.
Looking ahead while the trail wraps along the high side.
Zooming in!
Looking back once again to appreciate a different POV.
No, that is not a bridge we crossed.
We’re heading towards the next opening ahead but we’ll be in the trees for a while in this next but first.
Can’t remember for the life of me what it was for, but I think it was used as an aqueduct.
Apparently there are climbers who take on this section here and that’s an active railroad track just above the arches.
Can you see the old walking path just below the new and improved?
Looking back in the other direction.
Yes, I’m standing on a glass platform and I totally looked down.
Is that a waterfall?
An unobstructed view.
Hiking all the way into this crevice and then go back out towards the waterfall.
At the pinnacle of the crevice and I can’t help but want to look down.
A view straight out from the bridge we cross near the waterfall.
Dave posing for a timely photo op.
Admiring it’s natural and amazing presence.
The end before we jogged all the way back to catch the bus so we didn’t have to wait for the next one.
