So, for the 5 day puente this weekend we decided to head towards Guadix and today we checked out this small gem in the Granada province.
Catedral de la Encarnación de Guadix which you can’t miss when you enter the town as it’s the focal point.
A highly decorated facade of the cathedral.
Toren finding the fun.
Plaza de la Constitución
The train we took to investigate the Barrio de las Cuevas. Asher enjoyed it.
Templo Jubilar San Pedro Poveda Apóstol de las Cuevas
Inside the temple was a model cave house which was pretty impressive. Here is the entrance.
There are a few more rooms off in each direction.
And there are stairs folks!
With 2 small rooms above.
This photo and the next are from the Mirador Padre Poveda looking out towards a portion of the cuevas which is considered to be Europe’s capital of cave dwellings as there are more than 2000 inhabited caves.
Here’s a view looking towards the city center and the Mirador is actually on top of a few cave homes. You can see the top of the Catedral and the Alcazaba.
Here are the cave homes below the mirador.
This is Cueva de José where 4 generations of his family have lived and he told us that he was born here. This is the main entrance with a room and a bathroom attached.
I was standing here to take the pic above and this is the salon. There is a room straight ahead and to the right.
The kitchen which is located near the cave entrance.
Walking through the town.
La Iglesia de Santiago
Toren posing below the Alcazaba which has been closed for restorations.
A closer view of the city center from Mirador de la Magdalena.
Toren taking in a different view.
