What we thought was our last full day in Copenhagen was spent heading out to Roskilde to check out The Viking Museum and then spending several hours at Tivoli even when it started raining in the evening. Informative and fun day!

They had a build your own boat area to see if you could make something seaworthy. Asher became disinterested after 20 minutes and Toren learned some good lessons.

They make replica Viking ships based on what they’ve learned from the ones that have been recovered and try to use the same types of wood, tools, etc. It’s actually quite interesting and here’s one.

Look at these oars! So much smaller than what you see for a canoe or rowboat but I watched 2 groups of kids doing it after a little practice.

Here’s another ship that was made by the team here and this one you can step inside and check out more closely. It’s a replica of one of the recovered ships in the museum.

Here’s a side view and in the field over there more activities which include fighting like a viking and presentations of weapons used.

Inside the museum are 5 Skuldeleve ships recovered, but discovered in the 1950s in Peberrenden channel. They’re a unique collection because they were used for different things like defense, fishing, trading and warfare providing a lot of perspective on the Viking maritime culture.

There was enough left of each ship to help them construct the remainder to allow visitors to have an idea of what they once looked like.

Barely there on this one.

The view out to the water from inside the museum that day. It was super windy and going out on rides was cancelled.

There was an area where they created sections of a trade ship and a war ship. Asher loved it and played there for 20-30 minutes. He wants to know if we can put one in the house. Why not?

Next up…Tivoli which is totally enclosed, but was 1st opened in 1843. I’m sure it’s dramatically changed since then.

Good thing we bought unlimited ride passes because this guy would do stuff multiple times. I.e., the little roller-coaster 5 times in a row.

The Golden Tower was one of our favorites and actually forced a short scream of fear out of me. Soooo good!

The other favorite was this roller-coaster, The Demon, Toren did it 4 times.

This area looked gorgeous and I was able to get Asher in one of these boats and steer. Scary!

We all did the swing ride straight ahead. Asher did great considering it was going pretty fast.

Another view of a part of the city nearby. Great fun and would have been easy to spend a whole day there.
