So, we took a drive north to the Serra Capelada that boasts about having some of the tallest cliffs in Europe. 1st stop the small town of Teixido, next Vixía Herbeira, thru Cariño to Cape Ortegal and then A Coruña for dinner. There was some fun, beautiful driving through these parts. Never a dull moment while driving in Spain or Portugal for that matter.
The view walking into Teixido.
Igrexa de Santo André de Teixido. There’s a tradition that when you visit you leave a stone on one of the cairns as proof. We didn’t seem to spot these, bummer!
The front of the church facing the ocean.
The view to the left from the Vixía Herbeira 620 meters above sea level.
The view to the right. It’s supposed to be 2nd in height to the Norwegian fjords.
There was a refugio at the site so I checked it out while the boys ran around.
Toren spotted the coolest bug as we were leaving. This kid really has an eye for catching things that can be quite interesting.
Here is the lighthouse at Cape Ortegal and the boys have got a new track just like that.
The weather is quickly changing but I snap this view of the lighthouse with “the needles”.
A pic to give you a better idea of why they’re called the needles. They are sharp rocks just sticking up out of the water. They can be fun to watch om a truly stormy day.
The town of Cariño. We were running late for lunch so we decided to chow on some snacks and head straight to A Coruña.
The view of A Coruña from Parque do Monte de San Pedro. It’s starting to drizzle here.
The Tower of Hercules in the pouring rain. It dates back to Roman times and is the oldest working lighthouse in the world.
The Casa do Concello da Coruña, city hall.
This is the Praza de Maria Pita (named after a local heroine) where we had dinner.
Igrexa de San Xurxo.
