Yesterday, our focus was more towards Grazalema and Arcos de la Frontera. I’ll do a separate post of the latter mañana.
This is the view from Puerto de las Palomas (1.180m) towards Grazalema. Gorgeous but zig zaggy road up.
Yes, it was freezing up there. I felt like there should have been snow, Toren too.
The view heading towards Zahara de la Sierra.
The boys chilling with the incredible vista. I don’t know how Asher wasn’t cold.
Copying his brother, but with parental assistance.
Here is Grazalema from El Tajo. I discovered a shot from below later in the day, but the sun made it impossible to capture.
An old church in the Plaza de España. Brrrr! It was cold here too. It was within 10 minutes drive of the Palomas.
Iglesia de San Pedro. Asher wanted to run around in circles while I took a photo. It mostly dates from the 16th century, but of course, some of it to the 14th century.
Directly across from the iglesia is Palacio del Mayorazgo. This is now known as a House of Culture where you can sometimes find exhibitions.
I love walking through old, historic streets.
Here is the Basílica de Santa María de la Asunción. This is the most important church here and was built over an Arab mosque. The plaza is unfortunately used as a parking lot.
Here is the back side of the church.
Off the front of the basílica is Plaza Cabildo and here is one direction of the view…
And here is the opposing direction looking towards Iglesia de San Pedro.
Toren got to hold and check out this owl while we were admiring our surroundings.
OK, but with who? This is near the Mirador de Abades.
Fun Xmas lights!
Leaving the through the gate of the historic old town.
Here is a view of the opposite of Arcos from Mirador de San Agustín.
This was the view towards Embalse de Bornos from the terrace of our B&B.
Everybody running “too fast” from me as we walk through the historic section.
Here is a view from below capturing the Castillo Ducal which is private. It was first built in the 11th century. On the other end is Iglesia de San Pedro.
The boys having a bamboo sword fight.
That’s one way to avoid walking.😅
A family pic at the Mirador de Abades.
