We visited Bohus Fortress in Kungälv just outside the city where a wedding was taking place and super interactive with various activities for all to partake. We even got to watch them fire a Canon from the wall. We also took in a couple more sites in the city as well as just soak up the atmosphere in Gothenburg.
The entrance to Bohus Fästning.
The main tower. The fortress was founded in 1308 but didn’t become Swedish until 1658.
Interior upper chamber of the tower where they were preparing for a ceremony.
A pond between the inner and outer wall.
For more than 700 years this place has been a royal residence, fortress, a city, a jail, etc.
One view from the Tower where it sits 40m above the river.
This fortress has endured 14 sieges during its heyday, but has never been captured.
Hmmm, I wonder why? The Göta river splits into two branches causing the river to form a natural moat around it.
My superheroes!
Toren capitalizing on the use of his chain mail and being my actor.
Oops, I think he’s gone too far this time.
Skansen Kronan, one of a few viewpoints in Gothenburg and it appeared to be very popular. It was once a fortress.
One view towards the east.
The other towards the west.
Steep steps down to the HAGA neighborhood.
This is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. Houses were built in the typical landshövdingehus (grd floor stone and 2 wooden floors on top.) There are now independent shops and cafes. We enjoyed a fika at Le Petit Cafe.
I spotted this while driving thru the city. Oscar Fredriks Kyrka.
The oxidized bronze, gold and red brick was gorgeous.
Ta ta for now Bohus!
