Our last hurrah before the school year started. In September was to check out Cabo de Gata for a few days. Unfortunately, the wind had picked up during our stay so it made snorkeling and calm swimming waters more difficult. Our 1st stop was Cala del Cuervo.

Our 2nd stop in Cabo de Gata was Isleta del Moro. What a quaint but beautiful little place. We actually found a couple good spots to snorkel even with all the breaks coming in.

Our 3rd stop in Cabo de Gata was along Playa de Genoveses, the sand dunes(although closed off), and a unique dinner where we were staying in San Jose.

Our last stop in Cabo de Gata before returning home to start the school year was the Faro de Cabo de Gata, Mirador de las Columnas, and the Mirador de las Sirenas. Amazing natural beauty!

Looking towards Playa de las Negras.

Dave getting Asher comfortable with the water and it’s strong waves.

Looking towards Africa.

Asher tempting the tide.

Playing a game of Where’s my family?

Asher exercising his right to not be in the water.

There’s hiking up over that ridge to Cueva de las Palomas. The snorkeling next to it was a wash.

I found them, way out in the water.

A view from above of Cala del Cuervo.

A view of Playa de las Negras.

This is the Mirador de La Amatista.

It’s really telling why this landscape had westerns filmed here.

Toren taking in the view before deciding which beach to pursue.

Reminds me how little he still is in this great, big world.

On the opposing side of la Isleta looking in the same easterly direction.

Now, looking west. This was a possible snorkeling spot but Dave wanted some waves.

Looking east towards the town.

Looking east along the beach. There is another accessible beach just beyond that jutting rock to the left.

The view of a small beach to the east beyond the rock.

A view south from the car park. Saying hasta leugo.

Can I just say that I have loved all the different variations of artichokes I’ve had in Europe.

Looking west down the long endless beach of Playa de los Genoveses.

Looking east towards where Toren was exploring. The depth is very gradual and you can go out quite a ways especially when the water is calmer.

Playa de Mónsul. This area was closed for swimming as the current was too strong, but some nice dunes to the left.

The beach in San Jose.

Further out admiring all the vessels.

Our dinner at 4 knots, a monkfish or poor man’s lobster. 1st time experience so had to document it.

After it’s prepared and ready to eat. It was quite good.

Yes, I love oysters and why not here?

On our way out to the Faro we came upon the observatorio de las salinas where a large # of birds live in the salt marshes.

As we head towards the Faro de Cabo de Gata.

Trying to find the trail towards one of the miradors.

Here we go….a trail that leads us where we want to go. I believe that’s a portion of the sirenas up yonder.

Just at the base of the trail to the Mirador de las Columnas.

Toren and I watching the waves crashing in around our feet. So refreshing!

As it recedes.

Looking at the rocky outcrop where we were just standing.

Last, but not least, a complete view of the Mirador de las Sirenas.
