Our next destination was Sintra, Portugal where there was so much to do and see. We were there for the day, but only able to see a couple places as things can be time consuming. The 1st stop in Sintra was the Parque e Palácio de Monserrate. This place is located on a road that is 1 way for the most part and if you miss it you have to drive around again. There are other places to check out along this same route as well. Not to mention there isn’t enough parking for all the people trying to visit these locations.
Toren starting us off on a tour of the botanical gardens of this palace.
Oh, which path do we follow as there is no yellow brick road?
This is the ruins of an old chapel on the grounds.
A pond with lily pads on the Mexican garden. I wasn’t able to capture all the variety of native plants from Mexico.
A look back ober the rose garden where there are very few roses due to the time of year and we cam just get a glimpse of the rest of the surrounding area here.
The palace is pink, that’s correct.
The lawn looking down from the palace and that last bit is steep. I wonder which type of lawnmower they use.
One of the many beautiful flowers surrounding the palace.
It is described as having Gothic and Indian influences as well as Moorish suggestions.
One room incorporates lovely stain glass which was the room for worship.
The ceiling above the very center atrium of the palace.
One staircase that visitors can access in the palace.
The beautifully carved door to the study/library.
The front entrance looking out from the inside.
I liked this tile tunnel effect that led down to the main kitchens in the basement.
The longest corridor in the palace (full length).
This is the music room.
The exterior front entrance of the palace.
Steps leading us down to a tank amidst Ginkgo trees.
The fern garden. So many different types all over this section.
The smaller lake that Toren crossed the stones to get through.
It was a treasure to walk through these gardens and we didn’t even cover all of it.
