Our 2nd interesting excursion was Predjama Castle which is the most unique I’ve seen so far. They say it’s a medieval miracle and it’s been around for 800 years. So cool!! Do I love history or what?

From this far away (parking area) you can’t even tell what’s over there.

We enter through a drawbridge with the coat of arms of the last family to own, who I believe was Austrian.

Yes, it’s a castle perched in the middle of a cliff wall perched above a river.

As you walk up the first couple flights of steps you can see where they built the wall against the cave wall.

So this is the view from their bathroom. Nice, right?

This is the kitchen and it had natural exits for waste and water, etc near the cave walls.

Ohhhhh, a secret tunnel. What could be up there?

Well, Toren beat us up there.

Ah, a secret terrace with a view upon the entire valley. No wonder, it was impregnable.

Wait, there are more stairs and where do they lead?

A view of the valley where the emergency bell could be rung.

This is where the built house ended and the actual cave begins.

They say it’s unclear just how many rooms, etc this hug space created for the families although it seems pretty cool, it would have been very damp, cold and wet for the people who used to live here even in the man made portion of the castle.

Hey, they still have a view from way up here. Behind me is actually a set of stairs that lead up to another tunnel where you can actually exit but at a certain point you would need gear to get out, so it’s closed to the public.

All the guys standing on the drawbridge

Amazing!
