So, the heavens ruled we would stay inside for almost a whole day, outside of lunch, since it was CRAZY rainy. The following day we headed to Porto, Portugal, but had a super late check in so we found a few things to entertain ourselves along the way; a castle, lunch at a place that had a puppy and a national park.
On our way to Portugal it was still rainy, but thought it’s a perfect time to check out a castle.
The draw bridge…even though the castle is closed they left this open. Thank goodness there’s not a moat.
Since the drawbridge was open we still explored the exterior. This the front of the bridge.
Toren navigating the puddles along the wall.
Oh, look, we’re not the only ones enjoying this weather. This is a large group of granaries next to the castle.
A view walking up to the castle, technically it’s in Portugal.
This was our welcome sign coming into Portugal to see the castle. The Spain sign was much less maligned.
Did I mention we had to enter Portugal twice that day because of the desire to drive through the Campo do Gerês in the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
We decided to hit up a portion of the old Roman road that runs through Portugal.
Here’s a section of the old Roman road.
This is Cascata da Portela do Homem.
Nice swimming hole right here but we didn’t have the time and it hadn’t quite warmed up yet either. There are several hidden swimming holes in this park.
This is the view from the border looking back to Spain at the national park.
One view out towards the direction of Braga while part way through the park.
